I have the same question as Judy Maseman,and I’m also a beginner. What do the letters on the Wilton tips stand for? I have A, B, D, K and M.

what do the different letters stand for on the Wilton decorating tips? I have some with A, B, C, and D. on them. I am just starting to learn about decorating.

In reply to Martha. Wilton is a great starting place and brand. I have used it successfully for years. Since you are beginning, I recommend going to out to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and picking up a few things at a time and trying it out as you learn. You will get the feel for what you like and don't. My best piece of advice is to start slowly, and don't buy a tin of anything until you get a feel for things. My biggest mistake through the years has been overbuying.

I am a beginner, but with sort of life experience baking. I ran across this and am so overwhelmed at what is out there! I was about to purchase a beginners cake decorating set not any of those brands but the “stainless steel” kind. Is this important???? My friend uses all Wilton, but thats because she inherited her moms stuff.

I have Beckenal icing nozzles ~ trust me this is the best.. they are narrow and longer and a pleasure to use in re usable piping bags.. hard to find for sure!!

Thanks for the detailed analysis! I was considering the PME because it says it won’t twirl away rogue. Sometimes I am holding my top one way in my mind it is going one way and then it goes a completely different way usually in a spiral. I thought I had read that the PME doesn’t do that. Did you notice any difference in that regard?
