Flower in Boot Cookies {Guest Post}

Today my sweet and talented friend, Kari, of Yankee Girl Yummies is sharing her adorable flower-filled rain boot cookies.  They are perfect for baby showers, teacher’s gifts {Thanks for helping me “bloom”}, or just to welcome spring.  Enjoy!

Updated Blog BreakI’m going to let you in on a secret.

I struggle with girly.  With baby.  With Cute.  So, putting together a cookie tutorial for a baby girl…was like the ultimate challenge!  Time to break out the big guns!

Don’t get me wrong.  I had my babies and they were so cute (Ok, still are!) But they are boys and the only cookies that graced our house back then were Oreos.  Love me some Oreos!

After much deliberation, I decided to go with a theme that could be used for a baby shower or for spring!  Or for a spring baby shower!

When I was researching spring baby showers, I saw people using rain boots filled with fresh flowers as centerpieces.  Genius and super cute!  And that’s where this idea “blossomed” from!

Flower in Boot_Yankee Girl YummiesLet’s start with cutting and building the cookie.

What you need:

  • mini flower cookie cutter
  • boot cookie cutter

Flower in BootCut out a boot and three flowers for each cookie that you need.  Don’t toss that flower cookie cutter into the sink just yet-you’re going to need it again!

Important advice: Try to keep the thickness of your dough consistent.  And build your cookie on your baking sheet.  It’s just easier not to have to move it until after it’s baked.

Now that your cookie is baked and cooled, it’s time to flood!

What you need:

  • Flooding consistency royal icing (turquoise and two shades of purple)
  • Piping consistency royal icing with a larger tip-such as a Wilton 2 (darker turquoise) for outlining the sole of the boot

8 hours later…

Since you’ve had a good night of sleep-it’s time for the details!

What you need:

  • piping consistency royal icing (ivory and darker turquoise)

Keep in mind that your flowers can look any way you want them to.  I wanted my boot flowers to match my flowers in the set.  When piping details, give the icing a few minutes to set for details that are in close proximity to each other.
