Mrs. Claus Cookies

Remember when Lila Loa declared it the year of turkey head cookie?  Well, I’m going to elaborate on that and declare it the year of turkey head AND Mrs. Claus cookies.

I really gave myself a big ol’ pat on the back when it occurred to me to give the oft forgotten first lady of Christmas a nod.

Turns out the old saying, “great minds think alike” is true.  As soon as I finished sketching, Michelle sent me these.  Then a few days later I encountered this adorable collection.

Normally in these situations I panic, but this time I was inspired. I took a deep breath and decided to declare it “the Year of Mrs. Claus” and call it a day.  The more the merrier, right?

Mrs. Claus Cookie SweetsugarbelleFor some reason, skull cutters just scream Mrs. Claus to me.  I used one to make this version, and trimmed skull from this set the second time around.

Mrs. Claus Cookies CutterTo make these cookies you will need:

  • Red 20-second and piping icing
  • White 20-second and piping icing
  • Flesh colored 20-second icing {for help with this, click here}
  • Gold piping icing
  • Black piping icing {very small amount}
  • Stiff green piping icing
  • Red Wilton pearl dust

Begin by flooding the base of the cookie.  Follow the steps below:

  1. Use 20-second icing to flood the top section of Mrs. Claus’s hat
  2. After the top has set, use 20-second icing to make a ruffle
  3. Use 20-second icing to add hair
  4. Flood the face

How to Make Mrs. Claus Cookies 1There are about a million…just kidding, four ways to make Mrs. Claus glasses.  You can be brave and go freehand, make royal icing transfers from a template {I would probably add lenses to make them a little less fragile}, use the “pushpin” tip, or pop your sketch into your Kopykake and pipe away.  I went with my Kopykake.

How to Make Mrs. Claus Cookies 3Once the glasses are piped, the rest of the face is easy.  Add eyes and lips.

How to Make Mrs. Claus Cookies 2Finish up with a few final details.  Pipe holly with a #65 tip {I have a really detailed post on holly here}, add the hat details, including berries, and then eyebrows and a swirl of hair.

How to Make Mrs. Claus Cookies 4If you’re feeling festive, use a clean cotton swab to add pink little cheeks.  I can’t say for sure, but I think rosy cheeks are a must for Mrs. Claus.

How to Make Mrs. Claus Cookies 5Let this lovely lady have her day, or include all of her North Pole pals like Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, and the elves.

    These are so cute! Have you ever watched the musical, Mrs. Claus, with Angela Lansbury? I may have to pop in that dvd and start baking!
