You’re the Peanut Butter to my Jelly
Throughout childhood my best friend and I played a long running game called, “You’re the Peanut Butter to my Jelly”. We always began with good old PB&J and ended with crazy combinations like “You’re the eye to my eyedrops”.
Nerds? Maybe, but all these years later this special memory still bring a smile to my face. With her birthday coming up pretty soon, I thought it would be fun to recreate our favorite game in cookie form .
There are a number of cookie cutters that will work for this project. My favorites are this Wilton jersey, a top hat from Hobby Lobby {available around St. Patrick’s Day}, and a simple onesie.
Because I already had an idea in mind I trimmed the shapes to my liking with a small heart cutter and a very sharp knife.
If you would like to create a double cookie it works best to piece the cookies together before trimming.
To make these cookies you will need:
- “Crust” colored piping icing
- Ivory 20-second icing
- “Grape” 20-second icing
- “Peanut Butter” 20-second icing {I used leftover crust icing with a bit more warm brown and egg yellow}
- Black piping icing {optional}
- Pink 20-second icing {optional}
Begin by outlining the crust area with a #4 tip.
Next, fill the cookie with ivory 20-second icing leaving an open space like the one below . Let the cookie dry for an hour or two.
Fill the empty spaces with either “grape” or “peanut butter” 20-second icing and let dry overnight.
If you’d like, use black icing {#1.5 tip} to add eyes and a smile and pink for sweet little cheeks.
Here are both versions. Notice the double cookie is a little on the large size. If you’d like a smaller version, a {small} onesie cutter works well after trimming.
Like I said, we could play for hours. Eventually things would get so silly we’d do more laughing than talking.
You’re the cheese to my pizza, the milk to my cookies, the salt to my pepper, the ketchup to my french fries, the butter to my popcorn…the list goes on an on.
Just peanut butter and jelly, some things…like me and my bestie, were meant to be.
I love ya, Ness!
