Easy Snowman Marshmallows

Sometimes it’s easy to get so caught up in work that we neglect the things that mean the most.  I’m definitely guilty of letting the things I HAVE to do get in the way of the things I WANT to do.  So, this holiday season I made a commitment to spend time doing things for the people that matter the most.  This one is for my sweet kiddos.

You could always make homemade marshmallows, but I like store-bought because they keep things stress-free.  To make simple snowman marshmallows you will need:

  • One bag Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows
  • Black 20-second icing
  • Orange piping icing
  • Marshmallow coating {recipe below}

Begin by spreading the marshmallows on a parchment lined cookie sheet.

Then, cut the marshmallows in half with kitchen scissors and lay them on the baking sheet sticky side up.  If you have trouble with them sticking to the scissors, dip the blade into marshmallow coating between snips.

Once cut, dip the sticky sides of the marshmallows into a mixture of 3/4 cups confectioner’s sugar and 1/2 cup cornstarch.  I picked this recipe  up from Shauna Server’s book, Marshmallow Madness.  If you’re looking for a fun Christmas gift for the sweet lover in your life, I highly recommend it.

After dipping, use a kitchen strainer to shake off any excess coating .  Try to remove as much as possible so the icing will stick to the marhmallow.

Before decorating, you may want to pull out any “mooshed-mallows”.  They don’t have to be perfectly round, but the really squished ones won’t look as nice.

Finally, add a little snowman face.  I went pretty simple, but you can do whatever tickles your pickle.

Let the icing dry for a few hours and you’ll have a fleet of adorable little marshmallows to layer in your favorite hot cocoa mix or to drop into a sweet cup of hot chocolate.

You won’t believe how impressed your kids will be when they see snowmen swimming in their story-time treat.

    I can’t wait to make these for some Christmas cocoa. I was wondering if you HAVE TO cut the marshmallows in half. Is there any reason not to use a whole marshmallow? It seems like it would save some time. Thanks!

    I love these and how simple they are! I make my own hot chocolate mix this will be a great addition to the cocoa mix! could add mini marshmallows as snowballs! I love marshmallows in my hot chocolate

    use the Jet-Puffed S’Mores Mallow or the Stacker mallows… they’re kind of square-ish, but they are already flat and a lot thinner. Would be fun to decorate different ways :-)

    Hi. Did you decorate the cut or uncut side of the marshmallow and what sizetype tip did you use for the yes and the nose. I just made them and used store purchased tube icing with their tips and they look a mess. Thanks!
